Read the letters from our Superintendent
December 21, 2017
Dear TWA Parents;
We hope you are enjoying having your children around the house and their laughter and energy fills you with happiness as much as it does when they spend their day with us!
We are going through some leadership adjustments as I get more comfortable being at TWA defining and learning the roles and structures of our school. At this time Mrs. Tashkandy and I have generated a leadership matrix using a lead administrator concept to portion out the variety of tasks needed to effectively run a school. The Duties Table (see table below) separates out our responsibilities.
As you can see we have split the schools up with my role as the “overall manager” using the American title of “Superintendent.” I oversee all departments while running the Middle School High School (MS/HS) and Mrs. Tashkandy’s main focus is running the Elementary school while overseeing her own set of departments within the school. We meet often and share ideas so both of us are well tuned into what the other is doing. If you have questions about something we always suggest you start at the lowest level, meaning deal directly with the individual you have a question for/about. Then you can work your way to supervisors and then the superintendent’s office if all other pathways have left you confused about our approach.
In January we will be announcing a Parent Night that is intended to get to more specific questions parents might have about the future of TWA. We’ll have a couple of presentations, we will do some group work on issues of importance and inform our families of where we are headed as a school. Of top priority is the new governance structure and our full speed move to a structured American standards-based curriculum that is aimed at preparing students for well- respected western universities. Lastly, we will help families understand what has been completed in Phase 3.0 construction and give insights into how we will scale up our boarding school program over the next two years.
Child care will be provided for students below age 10 at our Parent Night. We hope to see you there because your thoughts and ideas are important to us. We do want to emphasize this is a parents’ meeting that will be collaborative and require parents to be able to work freely knowing their kids are being looked after on the ground floor.
As we enter into the Winter Break I would like to remind you that classes will start back promptly on the 7th of January. Students not in attendance will be required to complete make- up work, but will not be allowed to make-up quizzes or exams scheduled in the initial days after the break.
We have four weeks before the MS / HS semester 1 exams. We have uploaded the study guides to the Google Classroom for students (the link is attached in this e-mail) and we hope you’ll support you MS/HS student by helping them look back over the first 14 weeks and prepare for their exams the final week of January. An exam schedule will be sent out to families on or about January 15th.
Enjoy your break and may love, peace, hope and joy fill your home during the coming days and throughout the New Year.
Dr. Brian Gander
Mrs. Hannah Tashkandy
